Controller
Confirm date, time, programs, start times and runtimes first.
Each zone
Run zones one at a time and watch activation, shutoff, pressure, leaks and coverage.
Water path
Look for overspray, pooling, runoff, saturated areas and dry strips.
Collect clues while the system runs.
- Which zone contains the problem?
- Does the controller show that zone active?
- Does the zone start and shut off correctly?
- Is water pooling, leaking or spraying pavement?
- Did the issue begin after digging, mowing or landscaping work?
- Do nearby heads or other zones show the same symptom?
The visible symptom and the failed component are not always the same thing.
Local symptom
One bad head or one wet spot may be local, but pressure, wiring and valve problems can create symptoms elsewhere in a zone.
System symptom
If multiple heads are weak, several zones misbehave or the controller acts inconsistently, diagnose before stacking unrelated part replacements.
